2016 Leap Year: Taking a Leap of Faith

We thought it would be fitting to write about taking a leap of faith since this coming Monday is Leap Year.  What does the term “leap of faith” mean to you?  Have you ever made a decision based on your intuition rather than common sense?  What was the outcome?

In the back of our minds, we have a voice that either tells us to beware or take action.  Most commonly, this is referred to as fight or flight.  People were not meant to be stuck in one place.  Literally… mentally, emotionally or physically.  Experts refer to our brains as having an animal side to them that regulates the fight or flight in each of us.

Have you ever watched the news or a talk show where the topic of discussion was about some “maniac” going against the grain?  A nurse working in her field for 30 years suddenly decides to up and quit her job to pursue a life-long dream of becoming a well published author… and succeeds.  Or your mechanic tries out for a singing competition, makes it to the top 5 and is catapulted into stardom.  These things don’t just happen to “those people.”  They can happen for you and to you.  Seriously.

Fear and unwillingness to accept change can hamper our efforts at being who we are truly meant to be in this lifetime.  Perhaps you are meant to be a stay at home mother, but what is your true calling? What is your passion or zest for life?  If there were no obstacles preventing you from living out your dreams what would you do with your life?  I bet many of you have a laundry list of ideas.  Instead of turning those into should’ve, could’ve, would’ve-s, take action!

Don’t let yourself get in the way of your own destiny.  Cast aside those naysayers and anyone else who says you can’t do something.  Take a leap of faith.  Even if you fail at whatever that may be, at least you tried.  At least you went out of your norm.  Somewhere along the way, people have forgotten how to truly live.  Live for today.  Live for the moment.  Live for YOU!  You might just end up owning a store in small town Elkhorn, Wisconsin or moving to France like you always dreamed of.
